The path to becoming a full time service dog for a person with disability is both a physically and mentally challenging one. While we believe that every dog in our program gives his or her best effort in training, it is a fact that not all dogs, for one reason or another, pass the final examinations to then be partnered with a person with disability. We lovingly call these dogs our "Career Changed" dogs. Some of them have a physical ailment that excludes them from being a service dog, some a temperamental reason, but all of them need a loving family to call their own. This is why we keep an on going waiting list of individuals and families who would like one of our Career Changed pups. These dogs vary in age, breed and sex, though most are under 2 years of age. All dogs are spayed/neutered before placement and have gone through some level of training in either our Puppy Raiser Program or made it to Final Training have had more formal obedience or in some cases task training. Some of these dogs would make excellent Emotional Support Dogs for a disabled person who may not qualify for a service dog with our program (possibly the person is too young to be fully responsible for a service dog at this time), others would make terrific Therapy Dogs, some may require a more active 'job' such as agility training, or being a SAR or Drug Dog, while others would just love a place to call 'home'. These dogs are as varied as the people who adopt them. If you would like to be placed on our waiting list for a Career Changed dog, please contact us for an application. |
