I do occasionally take commissions for pieces on a small scale basis. As said in other parts of this site, painting is my hobby not my full time job, so things get done as they get done, though I do make every effort to complete commissions on a reasonable time scale.  It is also important to remember that oils don't air dry, they cure, so there is a set amount of time after a piece is completed for it to sit before either a breathable or hard varnish can be put on it and it can be framed.  The average time for the completion of a commission is 6 months to 1 year.

I prefer to paint dogs in natural poses and settings, from candid photos.  I try to make allowances for personal requests, but one of the nice things about a commission is allowing for the artist's interpretation of the piece.  That is what makes it a unique and memorable piece of art.

If you would be interested in speaking with me about commissioning a piece of your favorite dog or dogs, please contact me at katrin@maplewooddog.com and I would be happy to discuss various options with you.
