Black and White with Brindle Points

DOB December 5, 2004

Monty is a 2yr old breeder return to Holly Craig (Visions Cardigan Welsh Corgis) in June 2007.  At the time I was training her Destiny, and as planned Destiny went into season, actually a month early, go figure.  Not to drive my boys off the walls, Holly and I had previously agreed that when Destiny was in season she would go back to NY.  So I took Monty for what was a planned few weeks.

I had come so accustom to the pitter patter of crazy little corgi feet running full speed around my house and yard that I couldn't stand to be without it for even the few weeks that Destiny was in NY.

He is completely what I swore off, a black rescue dog, but it was meant to be.  (Plus as everyone reminds me- he's black AND white, even got a little brindle brown in there too!)

Monty's original owners, as I understand, it had always wanted a small dog named "Spike."  A name which I have many negative connotations to.  Any time I think of a dog named "Spike" I think of the unsocialized, very aggressive German Shepherd at the junk yard or the little biting nasty Yorki.  I just couldn't call him "Spike" though I am sure he is none of those things I think of when I think "Spike."  And since his litter theme was Mountains and Okemo is a ski mountain in Vermont, he is now "Monty", short for "Vermont."  Which works nicely as I have always wanted to live in Vermont as it is such a lovely state.

Monty is a natural agility dog.  He competed in his 1st agility trial over Labor Day Weekend 2007 in NY.  He got his 1st blue ribbon in Novice Jumpers!  He also did very well in Novice Tunnelers and Novice Touch N Go.  No Qs yet, but he showed me he has the speed, drive and endurance (it was a 3 day trial) to be the awesome performance Cardigan I've always dreamed of!

Monty is also a 1st rate retriever!  He retrieves bumpers, dokkens, metal food bowls, etc.  You name it, he picks it up!  And most of the time brings it to you, some things he'd prefer to demolish (he LOVES the crunch that plastic makes, like cell phone plastic, when he bites on it really, really hard.  Monty's other name is "The Hairy Termite" and it fits very, very well!)

Monty has tried herding and he and I both enjoy it, so will continue throughout the summer.  Check out the photos

But really, Monty's 1st love is being a top rate Therapy Dog!  In early September 2007, Monty passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate and his Therapy Dogs International certification, to become an official Therapy Dog!  We will soon be out visiting on a regular basis.  Monty prefers to work with kids, and they love him back just as much!  He's a happy, funny and cute little dog.
