More Photos of Daisy

Daisy was my 1st dog and came home with my mother when I was 10 years old.  She was a shepherd, husky, beagle mix, an odd combo that made for a great dog!  Back then Pet Stores did not sell designer dogs for thousands of dollars, my mother bought Daisy at the local Pet Store for $15.

In a rather odd twist of fate, my father lost his job the day Daisy came home.  My mother offered to take her back to the Pet Store, as she was just one more mouth to feed.  But Dad said, "No, she's a part of the family now, she can stay."  Yeah!  My 1st dog!

Daisy was adorable.  She was black and tan with white front feet.  She had Yoda ears, that went horizontally out from her head, very silly.  Her personality was similar to Clara's without the obnoxious independence.  She loved having her photo taken and being the center of attention, but she lived for me and my father.  Actually when she passed away, I scattered her ashes at my father's grave.  I couldn't think of any place she would be happier and more content.

Daisy never had any formal training, but she did everything I could think of.  There was no agility in those days, but she was my 1st agility dog.  She would balance across fallen logs, jump over tires, walk across planks and any other obstacles I could think of.  I always said she would jump through a flaming hoop if I asked her to.  And I truly believe she would have, she was just that kind of dog.

We spent the days running in the bogs, and the conservation land near my house.  At night she would stay up with my dad waiting for his nightly cereal snack, as he would of course share with her, then she would come sleep with me.

She did a bit of traveling, with a drive to Virginia and back.  She lived there with me for a short time, until we moved back home to Massachusetts.  She visited me at college in Leicester, MA.  She watched over my nephews when they were babies and she taught puppy Lucy all there was to know.

Daisy was also a staunch guard dog.  One day, as a teenager, I was gardening in the yard.  Daisy was as usual off leash, hanging out with me.  No one else was home.  A very tall, large man started to come into the yard, walking quietly across the lawn, when Daisy stood up with her hackles raised.  I saw her get up, and therefore I turned around and saw the man.  He took one look at Daisy and quickly came up for some lame, stupid story as to why he was in my yard.  He quickly left and to this day I believe he was up to no good!  Thank heavens for Daisy's watchful eye.
